Cash injection for housing projects in Brighton and Hove

The scheme to build 12 homes on an old car park on Kensington Street, Brighton, will receive £144,000. Work started on the project this week.

The redevelopment of the old housing office at Selsfield Drive, Moulsecoomb, into 30 homes was given a £335,000 boost, to divert a public sewer and make electricity substation and highways improvements.

And a further £340,000 was given to the council for a project in Victoria Road, Portslade.

The cash, from The Land Release Fund, is part of a £6.1 million pot handed out to projects in London and the South East.

The move comes two weeks after the first wave of funding from the £5bn Housing Infrastructure Fund was announced, including £15.2m for the King Alfred redevelopment project by Crest Nicholson and The Starr Trust.

Housing Minister Dominic Raab said: “We are investing £6.1 million across London and the South East to build roads and provide utilities, so councils can release the land to get up to 762 new homes built.

“It’s part of our strategy to build the homes Britain needs, and carry local communities with us.

“We’re determined to make buying or renting more affordable for young families and those on low or middle incomes.”
