The cash is part of the Prevention and Wellbeing Grants which promotes social contact, exercise, and educational activities.

Councillors at the meeting also agreed to give nearly £4,000 to local projects through the Community Initiative Fund - which has distributed more than £1million to West Sussex schemes since 2006.

This included applications from the Haywards Heath Foodbank to help build a storage facility as well as Balcombe Parish Council for new tables and chairs for its village hall.

Pete said he is extremely pleased to be re-appointed to represent Central Mid Sussex as its chairman.

He added: “There are a number of important issues coming up this year and we will make sure residents play a vital part in the decision-making process.

“The committee is always very pleased to help voluntary and community groups in Mid Sussex and these grants, totalling £10,000, allow us to do just that.

“I really would urge organisations who feel they could be eligible to contact us since we have more money to disburse throughout the year.”

The next Central Mid Sussex meeting will be held at 7pm on Tuesday September 24 at Haywards Heath Library.
