Coldwaltham housing proposal labelled ‘wrong’

Plans to build eight homes in a Coldwaltham field are ‘wrong’ and the development should not go ahead, a village resident has said.

The application for four two-bedroom houses and four three-bedroom houses has been submitted to South Downs National Park Authority and is set to be debated by Horsham District Council.

The proposal would see the homes built on a plot of brownfield land in Silverdale, which was formerly owned by the district council and is currently rented for horse grazing.

Village resident Stephen Hill said the plan is ‘not a sustainable development’.

He said: “I am totally opposed to what this whole plan is about.

“Everything is wrong about it. Some people have just moved into the area and now find out there is going to potentially be a housing development.

“It is not a sustainable development. There is no work in the area and as such no transport.”

Mr Hill is hoping fellow residents will sign a petition showing their opposition to the application.

A well-attended public meeting has already been held to give villagers an opportunity to voice their displeasure.

Mr Hill said: “No one can see the benefit of building on such a small plot of land.

“I don’t think any of us are against housing, but we are in a small road and they are building eight houses with 16 potential cars travelling up the road.

In other South Downs planning news HDC’s Development Control South Committee debated a number of applications last Tuesday:

- Two separate applications for Bartram House in Station Road, Pulborough, were refused. One would have seen homes built behind it, while the second would have seen the existing building demolished and replaced by new homes.
