Community involved in ‘battle against litter’ with new posters in Horsham

Litter posters designed by adults with learning difficulties are to be displayed throughout the Horsham district as part of a joint initiative between Horsham District Council and West Sussex County Council.

The posters were designed by a group of adults from `Horizons` - a community group from The Strawford Centre in Horsham.

The group, which is based at the Normandy Centre, worked hard to come up with designs for the posters as part of a competition that was launched to encourage people not to drop litter.

Inspired by the arrival of some litter grabbers and images of rubbish supplied by a council staff member, some great posters were designed and several district councillors and officers then judged the entries.

HDC provided gift tokens to the top three winning entries and a bar of chocolate to the other five poster designers.

Andrew Baldwin (Con, Holbrook East), HDC’s cabinet member for the environment, said: “We were very impressed with all the posters. It’s great to have members of the community getting involved in our battle against litter and helping keep our district tidy.”

Jill Hardie, of ‘Horizons’ community group, said: “I am delighted that the ideas and work of this group has been recognised, and they are excited to have been selected as winners!”

Copies of the posters will be displayed on various notice boards across the Horsham district.
