Council sets '˜fairly ambitious' corporate plan priorities for Horsham district

Supporting communities, improving the local economy, managing the environment and delivering great value services are Horsham District Council's new corporate plan priorities.

The authority’s cabinet approved the draft document last Thursday to help form the basis of departmental service plans and ‘put the routine work of the council in context’.

If agreed by Full Council later this month they will succeed the 2011-2015 district plan priorities.

Ray Dawe (Con, Chantry), leader of the council, said: “I believe its fairly ambitious and there are timelines in there.”

Under the communities heading the council has listed plans for growing footfall at its cultural and leisure facilities, delivering a new Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre, new strategies for sports, heritage and culture, delivery of housing to meet local need, and working with health providers to encourage delivery of better facilities and outcomes.

In the economy section are plans for a master plan for Horsham town centre, an economic development strategy to promote the district as a first choice business and visitor destination, and finalising plans for Billingshurst’s village centre.

Growing the council’s property portfolio to increase income, delivering a balanced budget in the medium term, working with partner councils to secure a devolution settlement, continuing business transformation, and applying commissioning principles are listed under the efficiency and organisation heading.

Meanwhile environment priorities include implementing the Horsham District Local Plan, ensuring the new homes and business park is delivered, supporting neighbourhood plans, reviewing waste services to maximise efficiency, delivering a new waste depot at Hop Oast, and aiming to reach 50 per cent recycling of household waste by 2020.
