Plans to demolish a house in Chichester and replace it with six flats have been refused.

The application from Hestia Homes (Surrey) Limited, for a property in Lavant Road, was turned down by district council planning officers.

A number of reasons were given, including the ‘unacceptable overbearing impact’ the block would have on its neighbours, and the fear that the scale, design and layout would ‘interrupt the character and rhythm’ of the street.

Chichester City Council strongly objected to the plans, saying the building was ‘of excessive and uncharacteristic mass and bulk’,

If it had been approved, the block would have been laid out with two flats on each of the ground and first floors and two in the roof space.
