This is when Horsham pop-up cycle lanes will be removed

Works to remove the Horsham temporary cycleways will start on Monday (November 23), the county council has confirmed.

West Sussex County Council said traffic management will be essential when works start on Monday, ‘for the safety of both road users and the workforce’.

A spokesperson said: “Please be aware that delays may be likely on these cycleway routes. Our contractor will try to minimise disruption as much as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience.

“Where practical, the removal teams will take the opportunity to carry out any minor, unrelated work that needs doing on the highway, such as the removal of vegetation and repair of small cracks in the carriageway surface.

“This could prevent the need for future traffic management and additional inconvenience.”

The pop-up cycle lanes in Chichester and Worthing will also be removed from Monday.

Detail on the other schemes will be announced in ‘due course’, the county council said.

Pop-up cycle lanes were set up along Albion Way in Horsham during the summer as the government looked to capitalise on an increase in cycling during the summer lockdown and move people away from public transport.

However, after an overwhelmingly negative response, the decision to scrap the scheme was taken by the cabinet member for highways and infrastructure Roger Elkins towards the end of October. Read more here
