Decision due on 160 Henfield homes

An application for 160 homes in Henfield will be heard by the council today (Tuesday August 20).

Horsham District Council’s planning committee will debate Barratt Homes’ plans for houses off West End Lane at 11am in Park North, North Street, Horsham.

Campaigners are expected to pack out the council chambers and will demonstrate outside the offices before the meeting.

Simon Andrews, chairman of Hands off Henfield, said: “We feel we are constantly under threat from opportunistic developers who have no regard for the National Planning Policy Framework or the Localism Act.

“They are trying to squeeze in as many houses as they can before the Local Development Framework and Neighbourhood Plans are adopted.”

He added: “The roads are incompatible for that volume of new traffic, our school and medical facilities will not have the capacity for an instant ten per cent rise in our population and we already have a surplus of new housing that is not selling.”
