Developer Peacebound is hoping to build the new facility ‘within a parkland setting’ off the A272 Cowfold Road on land adjoining The Orchard restaurant.

Officers have recommended that Horsham District Council’s Development Control South Committee approve the application subject to conditions, including a financial contribution to air quality mitigation measures.

Plans would include upgrading the access on to the A272, which is currently shared with the restaurant.

Both Cowfold Parish Council and West Grinstead Parish Council have raised objections on the grounds of no proof of need, and its inappropriateness in a rural location.

HDC has received 161 letters of objection compared to 66 letters of support.

A similar application by the same developer to HDC for a crematorium was rejected in October 2011.
