Outline approval for the 165 homes along with a 60-bed care home north of Old Guildford Road was granted on appeal by the planning inspector in early 2015, despite strong opposition in the village.

Now developer Bellway Homes has submitted a reserved matters application for the 165 homes, which sets out the layout and design of the homes as well as landscaping of the site and open space.

According to Bellway, the development, known as ‘Solomon’s Seal’ will ‘offer a sensitively designed, high quality built environment, meeting local and national aspirations for sustainability and character’.

Out of the 165 total units, 66 will be affordable homes, while the application includes a green buffer to the open countryside to the north, and allotments to the west.

The care home is proposed in the south east corner of the site and would be the subject of a separate reserved matters application.
