Dramatic changes could alter Arun’s political landscape

A MAJOR shake-up of Arun district’s boundaries could radically alter the area’s political landscape, if the proposed alterations are accepted.

The reshuffle, drafted by the independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England, could see a significant change to many of the boundaries in the Littlehampton area – with some wards disappearing altogether.

As things stand, the commission is looking to reduce the number of elected district councillors from 56 to 53.

The suggested alteration would see Littlehampton’s current Ham and River wards wiped off the map and replaced with two, three-member wards called Central and Wick with Toddington replacing them.

Beach and Brookfield would both remain unchanged as two-member wards.

There would also be a reduction to the number of representatives for in East Preston and Kingston, as well as those on Rustington West, too.

Angmering would see its boundaries shrink, with Ferring set to absorb some of the south-east section of the village’s current border.

Angmering would also merge with Findon, as a three-member site – which would see one fewer district council representative for Angmering.

Ferring would remain as a two-member ward.

There will also be major changes to the west of the Gazette’s area, with Arundel and Walberton wards merging into one, three-member section.
