Final chance have your say on Arun boundary changes

The 13-week consultation by the independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England closes on Monday (December 3).

The proposed reshuffle could see the number of Arun district councillors reduced from 56 to 53 in a bid to promote greater “electoral equality”.

The report also suggests significant changes to a number of the wards in and around Littlehampton. The town’s Ham and River wards would be wiped off the map and replaced with two, three-member wards called Central and Wick and Toddington.

The commission is also suggesting the number of Arun councillors for East Preston and Kingston should be reduced from three to two.

Rustington West would also see a reduction in district councillors serving the ward, from three to two, under the proposals.

Angmering’s boundaries would shrink, with Ferring set to absorb some of the south-east section of the village’s current border. Angmering would also merge with Findon.

Councillors have previously criticised the plans, claiming they would radically alter the area’s political landscape and could harm the communities that ward members represent

However, commission chairman Max Caller said the alterations “reflect the identities and interests of local communities” and would deliver “electoral fairness”.
