Five-storey apartment building on Eastbourne car park approved

Plans to build an apartment building in place of a council car park have been given the go ahead by Eastbourne planners.

On Tuesday (October 20), planners approved proposals from Eastbourne Borough Council to build a five-storey block at the Southfields Road car park.

A council-owned site, the car park is used for staff parking during the week and as a pay and display car park at weekends.

The finished building would be made up of 19 one and two-bedroom residential flats, 40 per cent of which (eight) will be classed as affordable.

Despite its size, the building would only provide five on-site parking spaces. As a result, a planning agreement could see future residents provided with a one-year bus pass and three-year membership of a car club.

The site forms part of a larger potential development site, including the adjacent Post Office Depot site.
