The application for Little Torch, in Hurstpierpoint, was given the thumbs-up by members of the planning committee during a meeting on Thursday (March 11).

Previously used as a retreat for people with sight loss, Little Torch closed in 2019.

The meeting was told that changes to the look of the site would be ‘limited’ and mainly centre around the windows and adding and removing some entrances.

The new homes will be three one-bedroom flats, four two-bedroom flats, one three-bedroom flat, a three-bedroom house in the former chapel and a four/five-bedroom house in the former manager’s flat.

Chairman Gary Marsh called the application, from Martin Homes Hurstpierpoint Ltd, ‘a very good use of a brownfield site’.

The plans were approved unanimously.
