Fresh chance to see Horsham based thriller on air travel safety

Horsham students have been treated to new screenings of a movie which raises the profile of in-flight safety issues and the company is holding two more screenings for the general public.

A Dark Reflection, made by fact Not Fiction Films and filmed in Horsham, has been chosen by The College of Richard Collyer to be a case study for their media and film studies students. About 150 students in all will be viewing it.

In preparation for their upcoming A-Level exams next month, they need to create a case study on an independent film, so they will be finding out about how A Dark Reflection was produced.

They will get to know about the process from initial development: ideas, script, casting, scheduling, budgeting, through to the filming, editing and other post production features, such as sound and visual effects.

Two extra public screenings have also been booked for Wednesday April 22 and Monday April 27 at The Capitol, Horsham. They will be followed by a question and answer session with the producer and director Tristan Loraine.

A spokesman for the film company said: “Reigate College students who attended a screening at the Capitol last month, were full of enthusiasm following a Q&A sessions after the film.

“They were keen to not only understand more about the film making process, but also came out wanting to know more about why public health is not being put before corporate profit.

“It’s exciting that a large group of young people are supporting the film, as they are the next generation of voters who can make an impact on important issues such as the aerotoxic one that the film uncovers.

“There is already a motion that has been put forward by Angus McNeil MP.”

‘A Dark Reflection’ premiered at Horsham’s Capitol cinema in February this year. Filmed predominantly in the Horsham area, it is an investigative thriller based on fact.

The film tells the story of airline workers affected by the real-life issue of ‘bleed air’ - the process by which air is passed through the engine before entering the cabin. It can become contaminated by oil and over time can affect the health of pilots and cabin crew.

In the film journalist Helen Eastman (played by lead actress Georgina Sutcliffe) returns to the UK, after disastrous events in the Middle East, to work at the local Sussex Standard newspaper.

When she starts asking questions about an incident on flight 313, she soon discovers the Civil Aviation Authority will do anything to hide the truth.

Numerous pilots and cabin crew have helped to fund the film.
