This item has been submitted by the Liberal Democrats. Survation’s latest election poll shows that the contest is effectively a tight two-horse race between Conservatives and Liberal Democrats in Chichester.

This is a contributed party political press release. This website and its associated newspapers support no political party and it does not necessarily reflect our views. We consider contributed releases from all lawful parties as part of the vibrant debate in the run-up to the General Election and would encourage all candidates to use this platform to positively explain their vision and policies for their local communities.

According to the poll, the Lib Dems are predicted to take a 37% share of the vote, compared with 28% for the Conservatives. Labour is predicted to take 20%, the Reform Party 12% and the Green party 2%. All tactical voting sites are now recommending that Labour and Green supporters lend their votes to the Liberal Democrat candidate Jess Brown-Fuller.

“This poll confirms what we are hearing on the doorstep. It will be a tight finish between the Conservatives and the Lib Dems, where every vote will count,” said Jess.

Such a tight race is unheard of in Chichester, which has been a Conservative stronghold since 1868 apart from one year in 1923.

“This is turning out to be a truly historic election, whoever wins,” said Jess, adding that “I am hugely grateful for all the Conservative, Labour and Green voters who have pledged to vote Liberal Democrat for the first time in their lives. As someone who was brought up in the area, attended Chichester University and am raising my children locally, I believe the Chichester constituency needs to be better recognised and appreciated, as a vital food producer, as home to some of the most important wetlands in the country and as a popular destination for lovers of the environment and culture.”

“If honoured to be elected, I will push for better local and national services and improved infrastructure right across the constituency for all residents irrespective of background or politics. The choice of who will represent our area in Westminster is with the residents of the whole constituency, so it is great that this election is close enough to motivate people to go out to vote,” she said.
