The Horsham resident gave his thoughts on the campaign while votes were counted at Christ’s Hospital School.

He said: “Realistically, it has been sound not spectacular.

“All I have done is I have given them the choice to elect someone who is local to Horsham and knows all the issues.”

Mr Rae targeted finishing with five per cent of the vote.

He said: “I have got limited resources and I am up against the Conservative Party machine.

“I don’t want to walk out of here feeling I have been whipped.

“It would be nice to get five per cent of the recorded vote, after that anything else for me has got to be a bonus.”
