Horsham MP welcomes investment in West Sussex’s rail infrastructure

Horsham MP Jeremy Quin has welcomed Government investment in a new rail depot near Three Bridges.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin formally opened the new state-of-the art facility on Thursday October 15, which will provide servicing and driver training for a new fleet of trains entering service on the Thameslink line from next year.

It will be fully operational in 2018, will employ 150, and is the size of 13 football pitches.

Mr Quin, who attended the opening, said: “It’s great to see at this depot and London Bridge Station a huge amount of investment going into our railways. Since privatisation the number of regular rail passengers has doubled but we needed more investment to keep pace.

“The result will be more capacity and a more reliable service across the region.”

Mr McLoughlin added: “Our plan for passengers is delivering real improvements for those who use Thameslink services.

“The opening of this state-of-the-art facility is a major milestone and paves the way for an impressive new fleet of hi-tech trains to come into service from spring next year.

“The improvements will transform rail travel for millions of passengers, with better journeys on fantastic new Class 700 trains, improved connections and upgraded stations.

“The programme is also creating thousands of jobs across the country.”
