Huge turnout for Horsham’s civic service

The event was made all the more splendid by the stunning floral arrangements in the church depicting favourite hymns, a feature of the annual flower festival.

Dignitaries, workers, and residents from across the region filled the church in the Causeway for the special Horsham District Council service.

They were welcomed by the council Chairman Philip Circus who was accompanied by his wife Gaenor.

Guests included the High Sheriff of West Sussex Patrick Burgess and his wife Maggie, Horsham’s vice-chairman Christian Mitchell, as well as civic representatives from the county council and neighbouring district and borough councils.

Chairman of West Sussex County Council Amanda Jupp (Billingshurst) and the Earl of Lytton and his wife were also present.

Horsham district and county councillors from across the political spectrum also attended in some number.

There was strong support from members of Horsham’s Kings Church who attended with elder Phil Playfoot.

The County Times was represented by its Editor In Chief Gary Shipton and his family.

The church was looking at its very best, decked out in flowers depicting favourite hymns.

The readings were by Tom Crowley, chief executive of Horsham District Council, and Mr Circus. The service was taken by the Rev Jo Elvidge, assistant vicar, with the vicar of Horsham the Rev Canon Guy Bridgewater giving the address.

The collection was in aid of the newly formed The Chairman’s Trust Fund which aims to help those in need in the Horsham district who would not qualify for financial support from existing agencies.
