The artwork was created by artists working alongside the Worlds End Association and Manor Field Primary School.

By repainting the underbridge, replacing and upgrading the lighting, these improvements will help to make the station area more welcoming to residents and visitors.

The bridge will remain fully open to pedestrians and traffic throughout the duration of the improvement works although it will require pavement closures. The community will be informed when the pavement closures are required.

This project is part of the Place and Connectivity Programme, with projects taking place across Burgess Hill to improve public spaces and encourage people to walk and cycle.

The scheme is part of a wider package of improvements to Wivelsfield Railway Station area to provide better walking and cycling connections to the station and a lift for step-free access.

The programme is being delivered by Mid Sussex District Council and West Sussex County Council in partnership with other agencies.

Judy Llewellyn-Burke, deputy leader at Mid Sussex, said: “This lighting and brightening work at Wivelsfield station has been a long-held ambition of the local community. It will enhance and improve the existing features to create a safe and attractive space. We are really pleased that it will be one of the first of the many projects across the town leading to transport and public space improvements for residents.”
