Independent candidate could challenge ward of Horsham District Council’s deputy leader

North Horsham parish councillor Nik Butler, who lives and works in Horsham as a professional IT consultant, said he is looking to put himself forward for next year’s Horsham District Council elections.

He believes that many people feel disenfranchised by local politics and that it was important for independents to put themselves forward as candidates in 2015.

Mr Butler said: “We need to have somebody who is not constrained by committees or cabinets.

“We need to have somebody who is not just a voice but is an ear, who is able to talk without having to ask permission.”

He said he would be having conversations with protest groups formed to fight the 2,500 homes and new business park proposed for North Horsham.

He thought there were too many conversations happening outside of the council chamber and felt HDC needed to have a better understanding of how the internet is changing the nature of business as it looks to generate an increase in its business rate takings to help its finances.

Conservative deputy leader Helena Croft and Lib Dem David Skipp are the current Roffey North ward members.
