Lewes MP supports plans for more grammar schools

National reports from the weekend suggested that new Prime Minister Theresa May is considering the move, which would lift the ban on new selective state schools imposed by Tony Blair back in 1998.

Proposals for new grammar schools, which are state secondaries where children are selected by examination, have already sparked opposition across the political divide.

But Ms Caulfield tweeted: “Having gone to a school where more ended up in prison than uni, very much welcome grammar school move.”

In an interview with Conservative Home back in 2013, Ms Caulfield explained how she ‘grew up in a run-down area of South London where the only careers advice given to us was the phone number of the local council housing office for when you became a single mum and needed a council flat’.
