Mims Davies MP writes to Wealden District Council over outrage of Direct Debit taken early

A 'technical error', meant over 17,000 households had their council tax and business rate payments earlier than expected.

Causing extreme stress, frustration, and overdraft charges for residents in the Wealden District Council area.

Mims wrote to Wealden District Council following countless correspondence from outraged and upset residents over the error.

Mims Davies MP said: "On the 30th December, I wrote to Wealden District Council with concern, disappointment and outrage regarding them taking council tax from residents early.

"I know this has caused extreme stress, upset, and financial strain to over 17,000 households which is completely unacceptable. I believe emails should’ve been sent if this was going to happen, as opposed to posting on social media, which I know a large number of residents in my constituency don’t have.

"I’ve asked for this matter to be urgently reviewed as this shouldn’t happen and can’t happen again.

"I know a number of residents reached out to their banks who have reversed the payments and if you’re still struggling, please do reach out to the council and your councillors if you’ve not already done so."
