Developers want permission to demolish the existing buildings north of the Bishopric behind the Collingwood Batchellor furniture store and build a three-bedroom house in their place.

The existing scout hut was built in the 1920s and is currently unused.

Access to the site from the Bishopric is via a concrete pedestrian path between a two-storey building and the furniture shop. A wooded gate separates

the site from the street.

Permission for the demolition of the existing buildings and construction of a two storey home was refused by Horsham District Council in 2020, but allowed on appeal by a planning inspector last year.

Revised plans have now been submitted to HDC.

The new application says: “The proposed home will consist of an entrance hall with a W/C leading into a large open plan living/kitchen area, a lobby, a hallway with sufficient storage provides access to three bedrooms with dressing rooms and ensuites.

"The views of the garden are maximized through the implementation of bifold doors and fixed full height glass panels. Minimal windows are positioned facing close on boundary walls.”

The developer says the home would be highly sustainable, with airtight values of a Passivhaus, alongside an energy efficient mechanical heat recovery system, solar thermal hot water and PV cells.

The application concludes: “We believe this proposal will be favourable as the proposed ridge is significantly lower than the approved ridge from DC/19/1639. This high-quality design incorporates sustainable materials, and smaller mass then previously accepted.”
