Mr Gibb is to meet Post Office Ltd regional managers tomorrow to protest about the company’s plan to close the Crown post office in the High Street and ‘franchise’ it into a shop. He met Paul Wells, of Bognor Regis Traders’ Association, and Pat Dillon, the deputy town mayor of Bognor, last Friday about the matter.

Mr Gibb said: “The Post Office in Bognor is always busy and rarely without a queue.

People, particularly the elderly but also local businesses, need access to this post office in spacious and accessible premises.”

He was also worried about the impact on nearby businesses of moving the post office.
