MP Tim Loughton loses cabinet post

MP Tim Loughton has lost his seat in the cabinet today (Tuesday, September 4).

The MP for East Worthing and Shoreham sent a Tweet shortly before 5pm saying prime minister David Cameron had asked him to step down during the cabinet reshuffle.

In the Tweet he said: “Regret 2 report after 7 yrs Shadow Minister and 2 as Minister 4 Children PM asked me 2 stand down-good luck 2 successor in this vital role.” [sic]

The announcement follows news earlier today that Nick Herbert, MP for Arundel and South Downs, was stepping down from his cabinet position.

The Herald is expecting a statement from Mr Loughton’s office tomorrow morning.
