A new front entrance is proposed for Broadfield’s Seymour Primary School.

The works are deemed necessary to provide a ‘more aesthetic appearance and make the entrance to the school more obvious to parents and visitors’.

A planning application has been submitted on behalf of the school to Crawley Borough Council.

It explains how a secure lobby will be provided to allow visitors into the dry, but ensure that security is maintained at the school.

The reception area would be enlarged to make the space more welcoming to visitors to the school.

While the school has expanded many times since it first opened in 1971, the front entrance extension and administration areas have not increased in size to accommodate the extra support staff required.

The building would be extended approximately 1.7m forward of the existing building line, but a further entrance lobby is to be provided, which extends a further 1.6m past this point.

The majority of the extension will be the same height as the existing building.

The school became an academy a decade ago and is part of the Kemnal Academy Trust.
