Developers want to build a five-storey all residential building containing seven apartments in place of 25 Boltro Road.

Revised plans for seven flats have been submitted to Mid Sussex District Council.

The ground floor shop unit was occupied by an Indian takeaway.

But according to the application the building has been unoccupied since 2017 when permission was granted for seven apartments.

This was for a partial demolition and refurbishment.

A soft strip was undertaken to see the viable areas to retained but this revealed the existing building ‘to be in an advanced state of dilapidation and it was declared to be an unsafe structure’.

A demolition notice was obtained from the council, with demolition and reconstruction carried out.

But officers expressed concerns the building under construction did not reflect the planning permission drawings.

The proposed rear extension was deemed too ‘boxy’ and revised plans submitted to addresses these issues ‘to produce a finalised design in keeping with its historical surroundings’.

Meanwhile original elevations indicated the new building roof oversailing the neighbouring properties and extensive party wall negotiations were unsuccessful.

Therefore the applicant has redesigned the rear elevation in particular.
