Developer the Pegasus Group has submitted an application to Horsham District Council to provide four three-bedroom semi-detached houses to the rear of the property.

Under the proposals the first floor of the pub and associated outbuildings would also be converted to provide one one-bedroom flat, two two-bedroom flats and one three-bedroom flat.

The application also includes the provision of 12 car parking spaces, pedestrian access from The Street and vehicle access from Brook Hill. It is the second proposal brought forward by the Pegasus for this site in a year.

The pub closed in 2012 and has since been boarded up.

Last March there was outcry in the village when the company proposed building six houses to the rear of the pub and convert the pub’s first floor into six flats.

It was also seeking permission to change the use of the unit to retail.

That application was withdrawn before it could be considered by the council’s development control committee.

Cowfold Parish Council was among those submitting objections to the plans.

Subsequently, applications relating to the retail development have been permitted and the Co-Op supermarket chain now occupies the ground floor of the former pub.

Already residents have been commenting on the most recent plans expressing concern that the area would be made even more unsafe.

They also say space has not been allowed for large delivery vehicles to the Co-Op to turn, even though Pegasus has included this in its proposals.
