Andy Tilbrook, chairman of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, said: “We’ve had volunteers from across the village working hard to bring together all the evidence gathered over the last few years.

“The pre-submission plan has been drafted and now we need to know what local people think about it.”

The pre-submission plan (Reg.14) includes a series of policies to shape development in the parish over the next 11 years, a parish council spokesman said.

He added: “The plan documents include a range of supporting evidence and reports such as the Strategic Environmental Assessment, Sustainability Appraisal, Site Assessment reports, Local Green Spaces Study, Housing Needs Assessment and Habitats Regulations Assessment.”

Andy added: “The plan seeks to recommend sites for the development of around 250 new houses before 2031.

“In addition to these, sites where planning permission has already been granted and small windfall opportunities will provide around another 150 new houses in this period.

“The village has an increasing elderly population, and provides job opportunities in the care sector, in the agricultural and equestrian sector, and in all areas of work that supports the running of a successful village community.

“Opinions from residents and from people who work in the village are particularly welcome.

“It is very important that residents now take this opportunity to tell us whether they support the plan or would like to see it amended.”

The eight week consultation runs until the end of August, and all comments will be reviewed by the Steering Group in September.

All comments must be sent to the Parish Office, in writing, by midnight of Monday August 31 at the very latest.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions of the Steering Group in Zoom sessions which will be held on August 4 and 7.

The spokesman said: “Attendance at these must be booked through Pulborough Parish Clerk, Heather Knight, by emailing [email protected] or leaving a message at the Parish Office landline 01798 873532 and it would be helpful if any questions were submitted to the clerk ahead of the meeting.
