Gatwick Airport started the trial in mid February and said the new route will allow planes to climb more quickly after take-off, reducing the overall amount of people affected by aircraft noise.

But changes have infuriated Warnham residents, who feel that the tranquillity of their village is being destroyed by the constant flow of aircraft over their homes.

The petition, set up by the newly formed Communities Against Gatwick Noise and Emissions (CAGNE), calls an end to the new trial flight paths which it says is ‘bringing misery to thousands of hard working people’.

Launched on Monday today (Thursday March 20) it has already reached 370 signatures.

Two weeks ago Horsham MP Francis Maude met with affected residents. He said the trial had failed and called for it to be scrapped.

The airport is leading the trial in conjunction with the National Air Traffic Services, and it had been endorsed by the Civil Aviation Authority.
