The site, east of Fontwell Avenue opposite the racecourse, already has outline planning permission granted on appeal by an inspector back in 2017.

A reserved matters application, which sets out the detailed layout and design of development, was then submitted by Dandara for 400 homes, retail and community space, open space, play and sports facilities.

However Arun District Council’s development control committee had concerns about the scheme’s design and deferred making a decision back in June.

The applicant has made changes to the development and the public can now have a say on these revisions.

The developer suggests the new development will create a new neighbourhood for Fontwell which ‘integrates successfully with the existing settlement and defining characteristics on the site and local area’.

The scheme includes 30 per cent affordable housing, common parkland space, play areas and allotments.
