After people still in the queue have cast their votes the ballot boxes will be delivered to each constituency count.

First the number of votes in each ballot box will be checked, postal votes will be verified, and then counting will take place.

Results for the constituencies in East Sussex are expected to be announced between 3am and 5am tomorrow (Friday May 8).

Of the eight parliamentary seats in the county five are currently held by the Tories (Bexhill and Battle, Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, Hastings and Rye, Hove, and Wealden), two by the Lib Dems (Lewes and Eastbourne), and one by the Green Party (Brighton Pavilion).

In 2010 five of the eight constituencies in East Sussex changed hands.

Once all the general election results are declared the focus will then shift to district, borough and parish elections, which are due to be announced from Friday afternoon into Saturday.
