The flags will be flown as a demonstration of West Sussex County Council’s support for LGBT communities, while serving as visible signs of its dedication to eradicating all forms of discrimination, harassment, bullying and hate crime.

Louise Goldsmith, leader of the county council, said: “The county council will be flying the flag to show our support for all LGBT communities and make a stand against all bullying.

“West Sussex County Council is committed to tackling discrimination, and participates each year in the Stonewall Equality Index, which enables us to reflect on our progress towards being an inclusive organisation for our employees, residents and customers.”

The worldwide event was launched in 2005 to stop discrimination, harassment and bullying, and the county council has flown the rainbow flag on this day for the last five years.

Mrs Goldsmith added: “While much has already been achieved, a lot remains to be done to ensure the social acceptance of people from minority communities. West Sussex County Council is determined to play its part in this.”
