RESULT: Lewes becomes first Sussex area to vote to remain in EU

The majority of Lewes voters backed the UK remaining in the EU in yesterday's referendum.

The district is the fifth area in Sussex to declare this morning, with the majority of voters in Rother, Eastbourne, Crawley, and Hastings all backing the leave campaign.

The turnout in the Lewes district was 77.8 percent, and of those 48 per cent backed leave, compared to 52 per cent voting for remain.
