Last Thursday (November 12), Wealden District Council planners approved proposals to build three homes on land behind Little Oaks, a detached property on the northern side of Blackness Road.

Before making a decision, the committee heard how the applicants are two families, who plan to self-build their homes on the site. The third home is to remain undeveloped for the time being.

As self-builds, the applicants would not be required to provide any Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) payments.

While the scheme was approved, the committee added an additional condition requiring the developer to provide sustainability measures as part of the development, with details to follow.

Notably the site falls outside of Crowborough’s development boundary, but had been included within the boundary in the council’s now defunct Local Plan 2019.

Moreover the existing boundary is considered to be out of date and outweighed by the fact the council cannot currently demonstrate a five-year housing land supply.

For further information on the proposals see application reference WD/2020/0063/F on the Wealden District Council website.
