Spending Review ‘fantastic statement of support for hardworking people’ - Hastings MP

In his Autumn Statement George Osborne announced a U-turn on cuts to tax credits, a new national funding formula for schools, an increase to the basic state pension, and investment in the defence and NHS budgets.

But while the decision to drop the proposed tax credit cuts, which could have cost some families £1,300 a year, was welcomed by Lib Dems in Hastings and Rye they was suggested the Tories ‘will have been thinking about their own futures as much as any of ours’.

Mrs Rudd said: “This afternoon the Chancellor delivered his 2015 Spending Review and Autumn Statement. It was a fantastic statement of support for hardworking people.”

She said that some of the new measures that would benefit residents and businesses in Hastings and Rye included plans to build 400,000 new affordable homes across the country during the next five years, investment in free childcare for working families, and plans to protect Sussex Police’s budget.

Earlier today Mr Osborne said: “This Spending Review delivers on the commitment we made to the British people that we would put security first.

“To protect our economic security, by taking the difficult decisions to live within our means and bring down our debt.”
