Swimming pool appeal rejected for historic Horsham house
The owner of a historic Horsham building and the childhood home of one of Henry VIII’s wives has seen his bid for a swimming pool rejected.
The Grade II* listed Chesworth House, in Denne Road, has a rich history including ownership by several Dukes of Norfolk and comprises a late 15th-century timber framed house with additions from later periods.
The development of a single storey extension for a swimming pool was rejected by Horsham District Council in November 2012, a decision upheld by the planning inspector this week.
In his report the planning inspector Terry Phillimore said the benefit of a new swimming pool did not outweight the harm to the heritage asset.
