'˜Two more years': Labour jubilation at council victory

Labour supporters are jubilant this morning as the party celebrates keeping control of Crawley Borough Council.

Yesterday 13 of the 37 seats were contested, and Labour increased its majority from one to three, holding on to all its seats and taking Southgate from the Tories.

In the run-up to the elections national pundits predicted poor results for Labour, but despite being pushed into third place in Scotland it held on to several key councils in England, including Crawley.

Crawley Labour tweeted: “Results are in #Labour has won the #Crawley election. Big thanks to all who voted and to all those who helped - increasing our majority to 3.”

Supporters hailed the result as ‘brilliant’ ‘fantastic news’ on social media sites Facebook and Twitter.

Tim Lunnon, a Labour councillor for Broadfield South, tweeted: “Yesterday’s results are a strong endorsement of all the brilliant work @crawleylabour has been doing at @crawleybc! Two more years (smiley face).”

Crawley Young Labour also tweeted: “So proud of everyone in @crawleylabour. So much hard work paid off. Congrats to all for a great achievement #Proud #LocalElections.”

Henry Smith, Conservative MP for Crawley, tweeted: “My sincere thanks to everyone who voted and volunteered for the Conservatives yesterday. Congratulations and commiserations to candidates.”
