The invitation is open to any developer, architect, development partner or community group (but not individuals) with proposals for the Regis Centre and car park (land between Place St Maur and Clarence Road), Hothamton car park, Esplanade skate park, London Road car park and Gloucester Road car park.

Those interested in making a presentation to demonstrate their ideas or vision and how they might be funded should contact the council by Friday November 13.

After this date the council will seek to arrange dates and times for presentations to be made to all councillors.

A summary of all the presentations will be compiled and presented to a future council meeting.

All expressions of interest and enquiries should be emailed to [email protected]

This follows a Conservative group motion agreed at a meeting last month.

It came after the Sir Richard Hotham Project, now known as Project Sunrise, was brought up time and time again at meetings.

The project’s £80m plans for both the Regis Centre and Hothamton car park sites were rejected by Arun in 2017 before a successful appeal the following year.

However the proposals never went any further at the time because the council was taking forward its own regeneration schemes.

Since the Lib Dems took over last May, Arun has reopened negotiations with Whitbread about a potential land swap involving the Regis Centre, with a hotel built on the old fire station site next to the town hall.

The new administration has also committed to keeping the sunken gardens and started work on designing public realm improvements at Place St Maur.
