Horsham District Council unveiled the first phase of the West Street Enhancement Project in November 2013 but the bamboo planters were removed after a year and replaced with box balls and yew cubes.

The authority has now put in four new planters from its existing stock, costing around £90 each to buy, plant and install.

A spokesman for HDC said: “The majority of the council’s highly popular summer floral displays in Horsham town centre are now in place, and over the next few weeks will be ‘settling in’, as their floral impact develops.

“Particularly dramatic are the semi-circular planters in the Carfax, which feature a ‘monochrome’ display of startling black trailing petunias contrasting with variegated white nepeta and juxta positioned against striking feature planting of orange-red butterfly begonias.

“New floral planters have appeared in West Street as a pilot project in the Council’s efforts to enhance the ‘greening’ of this pedestrian area, and has the full support of Horsham in Bloom. The four planters being used are from existing stock and the cost for the purchase, planting, establishment and installation of each unit has been approximately £90.

“The display will be monitored over the summer season, and general feedback will be welcomed.
