Alex Harman took over the role as the town’s first citizen at the age of 23 in May, 2017, serving in the civic role until May this year.
It was a whirlwind 12 months, which saw him attend the royal wedding towards the end of his mayoral term.
Now, Alex has been shortlisted for the Young Councillor of the Year award at the 2018 Councillor Achievement Awards.
Hosted by the Local Government Information Unit (LGiU) and CCLA, which manages funds for local authorities, the awards will be handed out on November 6 at the London Guildhall.
The winners will be selected by a group of judges made up of local government experts and councillors.
Jonathan Carr-West, chief executive of the LGiU, said: “We received nearly 200 nominations for the 2018 Councillor Achievement Awards, so it’s a huge achievement to be shortlisted. The shortlisted councillors went above and beyond the call of duty in 2018, making a real difference to their residents.”
