Poll shows how many people in Littlehampton pour oil down sink

MORE than 50 per cent of adults in Littlehampton mistakenly believe a water company picks up the bill if their drains become blocked, according to a new survey.

A recent YouGov poll also reveals 27 per cent of adults in the town pour cooking oil down their sink – an action recognised by 45 per cent of people as the main cause of costly drain blockages.

If the drain is blocked within the boundary of their house, it is the homeowner who is responsible for fixing the blockage.

The average household throws away a tea cup of waste cooking oil every month – according to Living Fuels which commissioned the survey – when this resource could be recycled into clean electricity.

However, 57 per cent of people said they would be likely to take their waste cooking oil to a household waste recycling centre if they knew where it was. Living Fuels said around 80 per cent of the population was within a 15-minute drive of a waste cooking oil recycling site.
