Pompey spread their net as far as Lancing

YOUNGSTERS were given tips on how to impr-ove their game by professional football coaches.

Staff from Portsmouth Football Club visited Lancing Leisure Centre for the day-long half-term session on Friday.

Children took part in coaching sessions, matches and a competition where they tried to hit the crossbar of the goal, rather than the back of the net.

Porstmouth FC community development officer David Daniel told the Herald that as well as Pompey providing professional coaching for youngsters, those who showed potential could find themselves at the club's centre of excellence.

He said: "Our job is to get kids active, and get them off the streets and playing team sports. They are playing football and they are happy.

"If we can get a few Pompey fans or the next David Beckham along the way, then that's fantastic."
