A county council statement says: “To meet the increased demand for pupil places in the area, it is intended that the school will increase from its present one form entry to 1.5 form entry to accommodate the growth.

“This is a basic need project supported by the county council, the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton and the school governors.

The Glamis Street school has some 238 pupils. If the extension goes ahead, this will increase by 11 each September from next year for seven years.

Building work should start in December for ten months.
