The ‘Festival of Sound’ was scheduled for September 15 and would have been celebrating its third year, but in a statement on its website organisers said they had struggled to find adequate sponsorship to fund the event.

Last year’s event saw stages in the Carfax, Market Square, Piries Place, the Bishopric, and the Forum, entertaining crowds throughout the entire day.

The statement read: “The previous two years of the festival had received great PR and interest to the local community but with our primary sponsor entering administration at the end of July and other sponsors not being able to make up the financial void to run the festival at a similar level to previous years.

“It is with regret that the organisers had to make the difficult decision to cancel the event.

“We wish we could run the event without sponsorship, but as a free entry event we need to be able to generate the revenue to pay for the ever-increasing costs of first aid, security, crowd management, insurance and event infrastructure required to make the event possible.

“The festivals core aim was to raise money for local and national charities so this decision was certainly not taken lightly.

“The organisers would like to thank those you have invested time and money already into 2013 and hope you will stick with us for future events.”
