Popular twinning group member mourned

Members of Bognor Regis Twinning Association were this weekmourning the loss of one of their most enthusiastic members.

The association's social secretary for several years, Dorothy Paige, usually known as Pat Clevett, lost her battle against cancer last Friday.

Pat was a 'Bognor girl', though she lived in Littlehampton with her partner, Jim Clevett, for more than 20 years.

She went to school in Bognor and lived in the town for most of her life where she still had many relations and friends, aside from her twinning interests.

Her enthusiasm for arranging fundraising social events to bolster Bognor's links with St Maur des Fosses, Trebbin and Weil an Rheim boiled over among other members of the association's social committee.

Like Jim, she was also a member of the main committee of the group. Her activities saw her make numerous friends in all the German and French twin towns.

Her other main interest in recent years had been the buying and selling of antiques and collectables.

She shared a property in Arundel for this purpose and attended fairs around the country to meet other enthusiasts.

The highlight of this interest in her life came two months ago when she appeared in a national television programme '“ Dickinson's Real Deal '“ with David Dickinson.

It was mainly through this interest that she was able to raise almost 1,000 for the breast cancer clinic at Worthing Hospital following a successful operation to beat the disease two years ago.

But she was recently stricken down with a brain tumour that resulted in her death just nine days before her 78th birthday.

Pat was also a supporter of many other charities.

She often ran a stall at various charity classic car shows which her photographer partner, Jim, toured to take shots for the classic car magazines to which he has contributed for many years.
