Port open day provides charity cash

Port representatives presented cheques to some of their chosen charitable organisations which included the children’s charity ‘The Rocking Horse Appeal’, and Sussex MS (multiple sclerosis) treatment centre

Analiese Doctrove, the Rockinghorse Community Fundraiser, said: “We’re so grateful to Shoreham Port and their visitors for the very generous donation, which will really make a difference to the lives of sick and disabled children in Sussex and Surrey.

“The money raised will go towards purchasing items such as sensory equipment to help children with their development and social skills, toys, games, and books, to keep children entertained throughout their stay in hospital. We are looking forward to being more involved with the port and its future fundraising events next year.”

In addition, Hazel Condell and William Barker from the Port presented a cheque to Sussex MS Treatment Centre in Croft Avenue, Southwick.

Alan Taylor and Jane Carroll from the centre said they were very appreciative of the continuing support of the port over the years, as it costs around £90,000 a year to run the centre.

Alan Taylor said: “It will enable us to keep going.

“Our biggest difficulty is raising just ordinary running costs, so to receive a donation that we can use just to keep going is great.”
