Furious residents contacted the County Times in March 2013 after the road, where Southwater Street passes over it, flooded several times after periods of heavy rain making it impassable for motorists.

During a discussion in a planning committee at Southwater Parish Council on June 13, the clerk said investigations had revealed the existence of underground attenuation tanks in the area, taking water away from the underground stream by New Road.

According to the minutes of the meeting, one of the pipes leading into the tank system was blocked, which could have been the cause of the flooding under the Southwater Street bridge.

All but two of the tanks have been inspected.
