Post Office move concerns councillors

Rye Town Council’s policy, resources and general purposes committee discussed the consultation on the move next door into Jempson’s supermarket at a meeting on Monday, January 18.

Members raised concerns about visitors no longer being able to park for free when using Rye Post Office and thought that might deter people from using it.

Other worries included moving before the store’s ‘long-awaited’ expansion was completed, having to go through turnstiles to use the Post Office, having it close to alcohol and the fact that there is a Post Office in Jempson’s’ Peasmarsh store.

The response to the consultation covered four key areas: should the range of services not be increased if it becomes a ‘main style branch’, will people be able to park for free when only using the post office – up to 30 minutes at least, how will confidentiality be safeguarded and what security measures will there be to protect people withdrawing cash and foreign exchange.

The consultation closed on Monday (January 25).
